So it's our 3rd week of school for a 50 minute film class. There is so much to cover, so much to learn, so much to show, and so much to do. We are in the midst of early cinematic history examining the influential innovators that shaped cinema as we know today. I'm eager to have the students experiment themselves with cameras and technology to tell their story. To help them get in the footsteps of those early cinematographers, they will work in groups creating their own silent film incorporating the 3 of the elements we have studied thus far (though we don't have our official cameras in or the editing software--thank goodness we're in the generation of smart phones!)

Student brainstorms for short films:
- "Hallway" a film about life in the halls of a busy school or our school. What stories are told through the movements between classes? Inspired by Eisenstein
- "Dance-Off" focusing on the evolution of a dancer from flop to drop with comedic elements inspired by Chaplin
- A modern interpretation of "The Three Little Pigs". All about three students, the choices they make, and their consequences
- "Solient Green" updated for this generation. What are their fears and concerns about the future?
- "Across the Universe" scene redo--telling a story through dance and music. Inspired by Alice Guy Blanche's "Serpentine Dance"
- "The Cat in the Hat" Kitchen Scene--Buster Keaton style
- "Body Language" examining the non-verbal stories our gestures reveal
I'm excited about their inspirations and their creativity!
Wish me luck!
