So today, we are watching O Brother, Where Art Thou? We finished a Loooooooonnnnngg (80 slide) power point on different ways of viewing films. Each student has selected a different theory: Marxist, Feminist, Traditionalist, Catharsis, Mimesis, Formalist, Genre, Realist, Implicit, Explicit, and of course Auteur.
One of the students had already seen the movie and convinced the rest of the class of it's value, and they seem to be thoroughly enjoying it! Of course as English students, they're also looking for Homer's allusions. It's a process to retrain our brains to view films critically as film students to examine styles, techniques, and motivations.
I'm providing links for the students to access to learn more about the film and these film makers. Students will post their evaluations of the film based on the critical lens they selected.

Provide a summary and explanation of your critical lens (cite your sources) in a brief paragraph. Then in a paragraph evaluate the film via the critical lens.
